Law of Attraction

Conscious Parenting and A Really Good Week

Dear Diary: I’ve received a couple calls and emails recently, from well-meaning friends, asking why I haven’t written. (Well, the call from my father wasn’t really “asking.” It was more of a parental directive to get back on the job and produce something.)

Usually, when there is a lull in my writing, it is because we’ve been experiencing a particularly trying week in the Brown household. “Something came up” that kept me away from my computer, etc. etc.

This time, I cannot claim such a defense. The truth is, I haven’t written because I’ve been having too much fun.

Yup. Just hanging out with the kids, making dinner, doing homework assignments. Going to the movies.

I got distracted.

My apologies.

This one’s for you, Dad.

Today I noticed that I am loving my life, just the way it is. I don’t know why I’m feeling so great; this happiness just sort of crept up on me. What’s going on?

What Are Your Most Powerful Affirmations?

Attention Conscious Parents: Maybe it's time to share the teachings of Louise Hay with your children. Affirmations can be a powerful tool for every member of the family!

So, we were running just a bit behind schedule this morning.

Mom: "Hurry up, you're going to miss the bus!"

Son (brushing teeth at a snail's pace): "I am hurrying."

Mom: "You need to move faster, if you don't want to miss the bus."

Son (putting on jacket at the speed of pudding rolling uphill): "I'm coming."

As we drove(?) at top speed to the bus stop down the street, I suddenly heard the following, coming from the back seat of the minivan:

"I will make my bus. I will make my bus. I will make my bus."

And guess what? He made the bus.

My children have really embraced the use of affirmations. They would not recognize the term "Law of Attraction" - or even "affirmation" for that matter - but they are definitely grooving to the whole concept of conscious creation.

What Would You Do If You Won the Lottery?

“Prosperity is a way of living and thinking, and not just money or things. Poverty is a way of living and thinking, and not just a lack of money or things.” – Eric Butterworth

I must confess, I have been known to buy the occasional lottery ticket. I’ve never won more than a couple dollars, but I find that just having one in my pocket inspires some good, clear thinking about my hopes and dreams. In fact, visualizing what I would do if I won just might be a better payoff than actually winning.

Does that sound a little bit crazy? I think we all need to sit down periodically and think through our definition of prosperity. Okay, here is your chance to do a little self-discovery in 5 easy steps. I did this myself, as part of my journaling practice this week. Try it, it’s fun!

Step 1: What would you do if you won the lottery?

Find a quiet place and a scrap of paper (or your gratitude journal.) Take some time to feel your way into this.

I Would Go With the Flow... If I Could Only Find It

If this is the Law of Attraction, it doesn’t feel so good.

I wish I could say it feels good to be home, but some days, re-entry is a b#&*h.

When we left Florida yesterday afternoon, it was a balmy 75 degrees. When we got out of bed at home this morning, it was four. That’s right, 4 DEGREES. Fahrenheit.

After waiting in line for over twenty minutes to check our bags at the airport, the counter agent graciously explained that we had missed the cutoff by about sixty seconds. Our bags would now be marked “LATE”, with bright green labels, thereby absolving the airline from any obligation to get them on the same plane we were taking.

It is hard to do the whole conscious parenting thing when the frustration is bubbling over and steam is shooting out of your ears. My younger son was getting worried about the unknown ramifications of MISSING OUR FLIGHT, so I focused on remaining calm. I was slightly successful.

Help! My Kids are Using the Law of Attraction to Control My Life!

Does Conscious Parenting mean teaching our children about their own powers of Conscious Creation?

The Law of Attraction has been getting a lot of attention in recent years.

Regardless of whether you’ve read the uber best-selling The Secret, you have probably heard about it.

Put simply, the law suggests that we get what we think about, whether we want it or not.

Practitioners do emphasize that you need to have these thoughts consistently, and you need to put some emotion behind it.

For example, if you believe intensely that you will pass a math test, you will.

Further details include the idea that you may need to take inspired action to achieve your desires.

For example, if you believe intensely that you will pass your math test and you are suddenly inspired to study for it – and you do study for it – you will pass your math test.
